Guanosine triphosphate

Two steps from GMP: guanylate kinase makes GDP, then nucleoside diphosphate kinase makes GTP

Route: Guanosine monophosphate → GDP → GTP

Guanylate kinase moves a phosphate from ATP to GMP and gives GDP. Nucleoside diphosphate kinase then adds the third phosphate from ATP. The same enzyme made the triphosphates in the CTP and ATP pathways. GTP is needed for RNA synthesis, for protein synthesis on the ribosome and for G proteins. It also pays for the first step from IMP to AMP, as the AMP pathway shows. UMP follows the same pattern as GMP, with UMP/CMP kinase and nucleoside diphosphate kinase, and the CTP pathway shows those steps.
