One step: HGPRT also turns guanine directly into a nucleotide
Route: Guanine + 5-Phosphoribosyl 1-pyrophosphate → Guanosine monophosphate
Hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase (HGPRT) accepts guanine as well as hypoxanthine. It moves the ribose 5-phosphate of PRPP onto guanine and releases pyrophosphate. The product is GMP, which skips the two de novo steps from IMP.
